When the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe came to America, he had a phrase. He said it in Yiddish: “America iz nisht andersh—America is not different.”

He wasn’t saying America is just like everywhere else Jews have lived. He meant the opposite. America is a place where Jews need not hide their Judaism.

Being a proud Jew doesn’t run counter to American values: it’s a way of standing up for the ideals that make America a great place for all Americans in the first place.
